CanSino Biologics Inc. has initiated a Phase I/II clinical trial for its 24-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide conjugate vaccine, PCV24, and completed enrollment of the first patient. The vaccine uses dual carrier and covalent conjugation technology and is intended for individuals from six weeks of age and older to prevent diseases caused by 24 pneumococcal serotypes.

PCV24 builds on the company’s previously approved 13-valent pneumococcal vaccine iPneucia®, further expanding its pneumococcal portfolio in a field where no 24-valent conjugate vaccine is yet available globally. The trial will assess safety and immunogenicity, and a successful outcome could strengthen CanSino’s competitive position in the pneumococcal vaccine market and broaden its revenue prospects over the long term.
