This wearable device development blueprint has grand goals aimed at reversing the ongoing massive losses in its hardware division. Internal planning memos show that the company plans to significantly expand its smart AI glasses product line and launch enterprise service projects—“office wearable devices.” The memo was written by Alex Himel, Vice President of Wearable Devices at Meta. He stated that part of this strategic layout aims to promote the popularization of its artificial intelligence models and related products, including application subscription services and the consumer-grade smart assistant Hatch that the company is developing. Currently, Meta is competing with tech giants like OpenAI and Google, all of which are rushing to launch new types of smart hardware in hopes of boosting the usage of their AI services. In addition to in-house development, Meta has also engaged in related acquisitions, having acquired the AI pendant startup Extreme Intelligence last year. For a long time, investors have been pressuring Meta to improve the operational status of its Reality Labs division. This division is responsible for consumer hardware business, which has accumulated losses of hundreds of billions of dollars over the years. The company previously bet on Meta's virtual reality headset products, which have yet to yield significant returns. As the strategic focus shifts to AI wearable devices, Meta has shut down or scaled back some hardware projects, including the video calling device Meta Portal. Although the initial market acceptance of its smart glasses has been positive, Reality Labs remains in a loss state. Meta's financial report shows that the division's revenue in the last fiscal quarter was only $402 million, while operating losses exceeded $4 billion. Now, Meta hopes to create a sustainable revenue source through the subscription service of the chatbot Meta AI. This week, the company announced a two-tier subscription package for this AI chatbot available on Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, with related subscription services also extending to its smart AI glasses. Himel wrote in the memo: “To create a sustainable business beyond hardware profits, we must rely on differentiated device software experiences for monetization.” The memo revealed that Meta has set an aggressive goal: to sell 10 million wearable devices in the second half of this year by launching new products and expanding sales markets; aiming to achieve 6.8 million monthly active users for wearable devices by the end of the year. Eyewear manufacturer EssilorLuxottica stated in February that the sales of smart glasses it launched in collaboration with Meta would exceed 7 million pairs by 2025. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated last month that the daily active users of its AI glasses have doubled year-on-year. After the company released its quarterly financial report, he posted on Facebook: “This product remains one of the fastest-growing categories in consumer electronics.” This memorandum does not disclose the specific parameters of the new AI pendant, but the device may be equipped with a camera. The company plans to conduct internal testing in the spring of next year. Meta will further enrich its own brand of glasses, no longer limited to the previously launched Ray-Ban and Oakley smart glasses in collaboration with EssilorLuxottica. The memorandum mentions that the company plans to increase the number of partner brands and styles, expanding its hardware product matrix aimed at consumers to broaden its audience and improve profit margins. The first glasses, codenamed "Modero," are expected to officially debut as early as next month. New products codenamed "Luna" and "RBM2 iteration" are scheduled for release in the fall, while the fourth model, "Mojito Premium Edition," is set to launch in December. In addition, several internal prototypes, including those codenamed "Artemis" and "Super Sensory Glasses," will also undergo internal testing in the fall in preparation for future releases. The memorandum states that the aforementioned glasses and future products will be equipped with Meta's latest artificial intelligence model, Muse Spark, subsequent iterative models, and the yet-to-be-released smart assistant, Hatch. According to the plan, the company will also launch a wearable device developer platform for developers to upload applications for the devices. The new "Office Wearable Device" service targets enterprise customers. Himel stated that enterprise users are willing to pay for hardware with specialized functions in vertical fields. The team's goal is to establish pilot collaborations with at least 10 companies and complete deployments in at least two large institutions, with each institution integrating more than 100 devices. Competition in the artificial intelligence hardware field is becoming increasingly fierce. OpenAI has spent $6.5 billion to acquire io Products, a company co-founded by former Apple designer Jony Ive. Reports indicate that earlier this year, OpenAI had a team of over 200 people developing a full range of AI hardware, including a smart speaker expected to be priced between $200 and $300. Google has also announced plans to launch smart glasses in collaboration with Samsung this fall ### Related Stocks - [META.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/META.US.md) - [ESLOY.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/ESLOY.US.md) - [FBL.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/FBL.US.md) - [XLC.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/XLC.US.md) - [METW.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/METW.US.md) - [IGV.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/IGV.US.md) - [XDAT.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/XDAT.US.md) - [METU.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/METU.US.md) - [IXP.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/IXP.US.md) - [VOX.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/VOX.US.md) - [FCOM.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/FCOM.US.md) - [DAT.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/DAT.US.md) - [METD.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/METD.US.md) - [FDN.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/FDN.US.md) - [OpenAI.NA](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/OpenAI.NA.md) - [GOOGL.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/GOOGL.US.md) - [GOOG.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/GOOG.US.md) ## Related News & Research - [Meta Funds Oversight Board Through 2028](https://longbridge.com/en/news/287948837.md) - [Forgot to set limits: One company burned through $500 million in Claude in one month.](https://longbridge.com/en/news/288133998.md) - [Meta survivors during massive layoffs: All their spirit was flushed down the toilet.](https://longbridge.com/en/news/287751289.md) - [Fairtree Asset Management Pty Ltd Purchases 9,537 Shares of Meta Platforms, Inc. $META](https://longbridge.com/en/news/288137234.md) - [ProShare Advisors LLC Purchases 729,921 Shares of Meta Platforms, Inc. $META](https://longbridge.com/en/news/287884156.md)
