# SERES Plays Its Next Card

After rising to prominence with the AITO brand, SERES has joined hands with ByteDance, preparing to play its second card.

On May 29, 2026, data from Tianyancha showed that Landian Technology, a subsidiary of SERES, was officially renamed "Chongqing Saidou Technology Co., Ltd." The character "Sai" in the name refers to SERES, while "Dou" likely points to ByteDance's Doubao. A new company, controlled by Chongqing state-owned assets, with SERES relinquishing control, CATL taking a stake, and Volcano Engine deeply involved, has thus emerged.

On June 1, further news indicated that Saidou Technology would become the entity for SERES's new automotive brand. Its first model has entered the preparation stage, with the new brand positioned to appeal to younger consumers. The new vehicles will be produced at SERES's Phoenix Factory.

According to current information obtained by Wallstreetcn, the cooperation between SERES and ByteDance will focus on large models for in-vehicle interaction, AI cockpits, and intelligent capabilities.

In response to Wallstreetcn on June 1, SERES stated that specific details about the new brand would be subject to subsequent official announcements.

Industry observers view this as SERES's second growth curve following the success of AITO, a move that had been foreshadowed.

On May 25, 2026, SERES released an announcement regarding progress in capital increase and share expansion for its subsidiary. At that time, the shareholders of Landian Technology signed a capital increase and share expansion agreement worth approximately RMB 6.671 billion. New shareholders included CATL, Bojun Technology, and Xingyu Shares, while the largest shareholder was Shaci Zhiyuan, controlled by Chongqing state-owned assets, holding approximately 34.5% of the shares.

Following this round of capital increase and share expansion, SERES will waive its preemptive rights to subscribe to the newly increased registered capital of Landian Technology. Its shareholding ratio will drop to 32.96%, and Landian Technology will be deconsolidated from the listed company's financial statements.

An automotive industry insider pointed out to Wallstreetcn that "SERES relinquished control in exchange for RMB 6.671 billion in actual capital from local state-owned assets and a deep binding with CATL." Spinning off this new company from the listed company's financial statements also reflects SERES's strategic consideration: "Even if trial-and-error efforts are made in overseas markets in the future, they will not directly drag down the financial performance of the listed entity."

It can be said that SERES has built a sandbox for "Saidou." However, the market is curious about why it is starting anew after AITO.

Over the past two years, SERES has undoubtedly been one of the most successful transformation examples in China's automotive industry. After collaborating with Huawei, AITO rose rapidly. In particular, the M7 and M9 models became consecutive blockbusters, propelling SERES from a fringe player to a significant force in China's high-end new energy vehicle market.

From intelligent driving and cockpits to channel systems, Huawei has been deeply involved in every core aspect of AITO. This cooperation model helped SERES achieve a turnaround but also left a long-term question: Once a company becomes profitable, how does it establish its own brand and technology system?

Last year, with the addition of the other four "Jie" (boundaries) brands, AITO was no longer the sole favorite of Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA). Any shift in the balance of power within the HIMA system would cause SERES's valuation anchor to shake.

This has been the question SERES has been contemplating over the past year. Financial reports show that SERES's R&D investment reached RMB 12.51 billion in 2025, a year-on-year increase of nearly 80%. Beyond platform architecture and product development, a key keyword in its R&D direction is "AI integration."

In 2025, SERES not only co-established Beijing Saihang with Beihang University to layout embodied intelligence but also signed cooperation agreements related to intelligent robots with Volcano Engine through its subsidiary Phoenix Technology. This year, the cooperation between the two parties has deepened further, extending from the robotics field to automotive intelligence.

The reason is not complex. Huawei can help SERES win the present, but SERES must prepare a second growth curve for the future.

Saidou Technology is likely an important carrier of this strategy. Based on currently disclosed information, the new brand will not only have an independent channel system but also sell products simultaneously in overseas markets. This forms a clear distinction from AITO's positioning.

ByteDance's involvement makes this development even more intriguing. In recent years, whenever the market discussed ByteDance entering the automotive industry, a misconception arose—that ByteDance would personally enter car manufacturing like Xiaomi.

In fact, ByteDance has never done so; it prefers to become the Android of the ecosystem.

More than a month ago at the Beijing Auto Show, Volcano Engine released a new generation of automotive AI solutions based on the Agentic AI architecture. Insiders from Volcano Engine revealed that the full capabilities of the Doubao Cockpit Assistant will officially land in mass production in the second half of this year.

From a technical architecture perspective, ByteDance is attempting to accomplish something that automakers have not truly achieved before: giving cars AI capabilities for continuous online presence, continuous perception, and continuous learning.

Traditional in-vehicle systems are essentially menu-based interactions. The user says something, and the system responds. No matter how many functions are integrated, the underlying logic remains unchanged. In the Agent era, the car begins to transform into an intelligent agent with proactive understanding and task execution capabilities.

In fact, Tesla has already validated this route.

Since Musk integrated Grok into the automotive system, large models have begun to reshape the in-car interaction experience. From route planning to intent understanding and personalized services, cars are gradually evolving from transportation tools into AI terminals.

This is why almost all mainstream automakers have begun to layout cockpit agents since the beginning of this year.

A practitioner in automotive intelligence pointed out to Wallstreetcn that competition in intelligent driving is gradually converging. "Whether it is Huawei, XPeng, Li Auto, or BYD, the gap in intelligent driving capabilities is rapidly narrowing."

The AI cockpit remains a new continent that has not yet been truly occupied. Whoever can first establish a relationship of continuous dialogue, continuous learning, and continuous service between users and cars will have the opportunity to define the next generation of smart car experiences.

The cooperation between SERES and ByteDance is actually not surprising. One party needs to establish independent intelligent capabilities and a global brand; the other needs to find the most important terminal scenario for AI implementation. The two complement each other perfectly.

More importantly, the car is becoming one of the few super hardware devices capable of sustaining long-term operation of large models, following mobile phones.

It possesses cameras, microphones, sensors, screens, and continuous connectivity, along with naturally high-frequency usage scenarios. Compared to smart speakers and robots, cars are closer to being true AI terminals.

ByteDance has previously completed its mobile entry layout through the Doubao APP and embedded Doubao capabilities into terminal devices through collaborations with mobile phone manufacturers. Now, as Doubao begins to enter automobiles, it means ByteDance is completing another key piece of the puzzle.

Looking back, if AITO represents SERES's industrial leap facilitated by Huawei, then Saidou Technology carries what appears to be SERES's early bet on the next stage of competition.

As new energy competition shifts from electrification to intelligence, and then from intelligence to AI integration, the new script for the automotive industry is being rewritten.
