# FINRA scraps $25K pattern day trading rule for US traders

Major rule change: FINRA has dropped the $25,000 minimum balance requirement for pattern day traders, ending a 25-year-old restriction. New risk controls: Instead of counting trades, brokerages will now monitor real-time risk and can block overleveraged positions or issue same-day margin calls. Broker rollout plans: Robinhood and Webull are implementing the change immediately, while Schwab, Interactive Brokers, and E\*TRADE will follow in coming days.
