According to insiders at Tencent, WeChat Pay is testing its AI payment capabilities with WorkBuddy, currently undergoing early-stage internal testing. Tencent confirmed this news to Wallstreetcn. Tencent also stated that, in addition to WorkBuddy, WeChat Pay is conducting small-scale tests of AI payment capabilities within QClaw, with plans to open access to more agent platforms in the future. Leveraging WeChat Pay’s AI payment capabilities, users can express consumption needs during conversations with agents, experiencing an automated shopping journey from intelligent recommendations by the agent to order placement and payment via WeChat Pay. The head of Tencent’s MPR business ecosystem revealed on social media that WeChat Pay’s AI payment feature is already operational on her WorkBuddy. By simply saying, “Order KFC delivery for me,” the agent can select meals, add them to the cart, and complete the payment using the newly added AI-exclusive card within WeChat Pay. The insider also pointed out that the AI-exclusive card authorized through WeChat Pay has spending limits and requires final user confirmation for each payment, ensuring full controllability. AI payment refers to a new type of convenient payment service adapted to the AI era. Its core lies in embedding payment capabilities directly into the conversational flow of intelligent agents (Agents), making transactions as natural as speech. Within the entire agent ecosystem, AI payment serves as foundational infrastructure. In April 2026, WeChat Pay officially announced a comprehensive suite of AI-oriented payment integration Skills, covering three major tools: Skill packs, AI-friendly documentation, and AI-friendly APIs.
