# WWDC Preview: Apple's AI Features May Reshape Application Ecosystem and Revenue Landscape

On Monday, Apple will kick off its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). The tech giant is expected to unveil a brand new mobile operating system that will feature more advanced artificial intelligence capabilities.

The Apple Developers Conference focuses on the present. Whether the upcoming AI features will profoundly change the way the public uses applications largely depends on consumer feedback.

Outsiders expect that Apple executives will showcase a fully upgraded Siri on the iPhone. The new voice assistant can perform multi-step coherent tasks, such as helping you schedule lunch with your mother and synchronizing the itinerary to the calendar. Indeed, Apple introduced a similar feature in 2024, but it faced obstacles in implementation. However, this time the situation is different, and at least we have high hopes. Apple has now partnered with Google, and the AI services being launched should be able to operate smoothly; let’s hope everything goes as planned.

Without discussing whether consumers actually need such features, let’s assume that everyone will start using them. Francisco Jeronimo, Vice President of Devices at market research firm IDC, believes that the upgraded Siri will significantly reduce the need for users to manually open various standalone applications, as most operations can be handled by Siri. Of course, various applications on the phone remain indispensable, as Siri needs to interact with them in the background. However, over time, those applications that primarily rely on users frequently opening them to generate advertising revenue may find themselves in trouble.

In the future, Apple may also consider a charging model for such intelligent features and could share revenue with partner applications and commercial partners like Google. This means that although Apple’s investment in AI research is far lower than that of other tech companies, it still has the potential to create a stable and considerable revenue stream.

Of course, all of this is still in the future stage. The software is expected to officially launch this fall, which has traditionally been the regular release time for Apple’s new generation of mobile systems. We will have to wait and see how it performs in practice. If you are curious why Apple’s stock price has risen about 25% since the end of March, with a year-to-date increase of 13%, the above developments may provide some answers
