On June 8, WeChat released the "Guidelines for Developers to Access the WeChat AI Ecosystem," stating that to provide users with a more intelligent interactive experience, the WeChat Open Platform has offered developers convenient capabilities to access the WeChat AI ecosystem, based on full respect for developers' rights and autonomous choices. Since 2025, news regarding WeChat AI has attracted significant attention, but Tencent's official side has yet to disclose a clear timeline for progress. Wallstreetcn has learned that these guidelines represent an important step for WeChat AI in connecting with Mini Programs and enriching its AI ecosystem. It is reported that developers need to actively authorize access to WeChat AI via the "Mini Program Management Backend - AI Capabilities" section. Meanwhile, the WeChat Open Platform provides two options for developers to meet the development needs of teams of different sizes. The first option is Automatic Mode: Authorize the platform to read the Mini Program source code during submission for review, requiring no additional development effort. At the same time, the platform will analyze the developer's Mini Program pages, allowing WeChat AI to operate them directly. The second option is Development Mode: Developers can independently create personalized developments based on the specific characteristics of their Mini Program business. After evaluation and review by the platform, these can be invoked by WeChat AI. WeChat specifically pointed out that these two modes are not mutually exclusive and can be enabled simultaneously. Moreover, if developers disable both modes, WeChat AI will be unable to recommend or invoke the Mini Program, but this will not affect the existing services of the Mini Program. In addition, WeChat revealed that WeChat AI is still in the internal testing phase, and users cannot yet experience it. WeChat AI is regarded by outsiders as an important differentiated product for Tencent in this AI race. Since 2025, Tencent's management has repeatedly mentioned the creation of AI Agents embedded within the WeChat ecosystem and operating based on WeChat's unique business ecosystems. Tencent President Martin Lau believes that WeChat possesses five major ecosystems: communication, social networking, content (Official Accounts, Channels), Mini Programs, and payments and commerce. This enables agents to understand user needs, intentions, and interests, and to execute tasks in a closed loop. Such agents constitute the "ideal assistant for users." Regarding the launch schedule for WeChat AI, Tencent has consistently provided no clear response. However, during the earnings conference call in May, Tencent's management revealed that the deployment of AI capabilities within the WeChat ecosystem is still proceeding primarily in a gradual manner. Recently, the Financial Times reported that Tencent is accelerating the research and development of AI agents embedded within WeChat.
