# Amazon Signs Multi-Billion Dollar Fiber Optic Agreement with Corning, Sending Corning Shares Up Nearly 10% in Pre-Market Trading

Amazon announced a multi-billion dollar, multi-year agreement with fiber optic manufacturer Corning to procure fiber optic products for its data centers within the United States. The news drove Corning's stock price up by nearly 10% in pre-market trading.

The agreement will create 1,000 advanced manufacturing jobs in North Carolina and support hundreds of construction jobs. Matt Garman, CEO of AWS, stated that this investment will channel capital into U.S. manufacturing and create long-term employment opportunities at Corning facilities located near data centers.

This deal further strengthens the domestic fiber optic supply chain in the United States and is accompanied by technical talent training programs for local communities. The market reacted positively, amid ongoing attention to the localization of artificial intelligence infrastructure investments in the U.S.

## Core Agreement Details: Fiber Optic Supply and Data Center Expansion

Under the agreement, Corning will supply Amazon with fiber optics, cables, and connectivity solutions to support the expansion of Amazon's data center infrastructure in the United States.

Wendell Weeks, Chairman and CEO of Corning, described the agreement as a significant milestone for both Corning and U.S. manufacturing. He noted that Amazon's investment will help the company expand production capacity and promote the establishment of a resilient domestic manufacturing base in the United States.

Specific financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

## Employment and Talent Training: Benefits for North Carolina

In terms of employment, the agreement will create 1,000 technical positions at Corning's multiple manufacturing facilities in North Carolina and additionally support hundreds of construction jobs related to plant expansions.

Meanwhile, Amazon will collaborate with Corning and Catawba Valley Community College to expand existing fiber optic technician training programs. These initiatives will provide students with hands-on training and coursework in fiber optic manufacturing and related technical fields, broadening access to high-paying technical careers.

U.S. Senator Ted Budd stated that this agreement will create "family-sustaining" job opportunities for workers in North Carolina while strengthening key infrastructure within the U.S. supply chain.
