# Tesla design chief says Roadster reveal is coming soon as report suggests August delay

Tesla’s next-generation Roadster is once again facing a delay to its highly-anticipated debut – or is it? Just after a report claimed Tesla had pushed the Roadster unveiling back to August, Tesla Chief Designer Franz von Holzhausen suggested the company may reveal something much sooner.

Speaking virtually during the Tesla Takeover Europe event in Austria, von Holzhausen told attendees the Roadster unveiling was coming “in a few weeks.”

The comments stand in contrast to a recent report from _The Information_, which said Tesla had internally shifted plans for the Roadster’s debut to August after earlier targets for April, May, and early June slipped.

## Another Delay for Tesla’s Most Anticipated Vehicle?

The latest report adds to the growing list of revised Roadster timelines. Tesla first unveiled the second-generation Roadster in 2017 and initially planned to begin production in 2020. Since then, the company has repeatedly delayed the program, with timelines moving to 2021, then 2022, 2023, 2024, and eventually 2025.

During Tesla’s recent earnings call, CEO Elon Musk suggested the company was aiming for a late May or early June unveiling. According to _The Information_, that target has now shifted again, with Tesla reportedly planning an August event in Texas instead.

However, the two timelines may not be as contradictory as they first appear. Von Holzhausen’s comment that a reveal is coming “in a few weeks” leaves plenty of room for interpretation. Depending on how the phrase is defined, a timeframe of six to eight weeks would place the event squarely in late July or August, aligning closely with _The Information’s_ report.

## Customers Continue Waiting

Either way, the ongoing delays have frustrated reservation holders who placed sizeable deposits nearly a decade ago. Tesla required customers to put down up to $50,000 for early reservations, and some have now been waiting since 2017 for the vehicle to materialize.

Still, the Roadster continues to generate attention unlike almost any other upcoming EV. While Tesla’s current focus has shifted heavily toward AI, Full Self-Driving, and Robotaxi development, the Roadster remains an important halo vehicle for the brand.
