Although Apple proposed a customized plan to comply with the regulations and protect privacy, the European Commission did not accept it. This move marks the latest deadlock between Apple and EU regulators regarding antitrust and market influence, as Apple resists EU regulatory actions again following its opposition to several rules of the DMA last year"

# Confronting EU regulations! Apple's new version of Siri AI is stuck in a compliance deadlock and will be absent from the EU iPhone/iPad platform

According to the Zhitong Finance APP, Apple Inc. (AAPL.US) has stated that it is currently unable to launch the redesigned digital assistant Siri AI on iPhones or iPads in the European Union, marking the latest regulatory deadlock between the company and EU antitrust regulators.

At this year's Apple Worldwide Developers Conference, the company revealed three core AI technology upgrades: the first is the iterative Apple Intelligence 2.0, which has significantly upgraded from last year's version 1.0, with a substantial leap in system-level AI assistant capabilities, adding cross-application contextual understanding and multi-turn dialogue functions; the second is edge-side large model technology, where Apple demonstrated a 7 billion parameter large model that can run on iPhones, supporting most AI functions to operate offline while balancing privacy protection and low-latency interaction advantages; the third is an AI toolkit for developers, with Apple simultaneously opening a series of API interfaces, allowing third-party developers to integrate Apple Intelligence capabilities into their own applications, further broadening the AI ecosystem's practical scenarios.

At the same time, Apple stated in a statement on Monday that it has proposed a customized plan for the EU aimed at making Siri AI compliant with the EU's Digital Markets Act, while protecting user privacy by limiting the data that virtual assistants can access. However, in the past few months, the European Commission has not accepted any of the proposals put forward, meaning that Siri AI will not be able to enter the EU market with iOS 27 or iPadOS 27. A representative of the European Commission did not immediately respond to a request for comment outside of working hours.

This is Apple's latest act of resistance against the EU's actions to curb the market influence of large tech companies. Last year, Apple opposed several rules in the Digital Markets Act, including allowing third-party payments and downloading apps from alternative app stores. The European Commission previously stated that it would not repeal or amend the Digital Markets Act due to Apple's complaints, forcing Apple to make corresponding adjustments for EU users.

Earlier on Monday, the iPhone released a redesigned, more powerful version of Siri, which can answer questions by retrieving data from users' screen content, messages, emails, and photos. Apple stated that under the "extreme interpretation" of the Digital Markets Act by EU regulators, the company would be required to grant direct access to users' private data to any virtual assistant "without taking necessary protective measures to ensure the safety of users and their data."

Craig Federighi, Apple's Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, stated in a statement: "The regulators' refusal to engage in constructive communication about solutions to protect privacy and security means we currently cannot determine the timeline for launching Siri AI on EU iOS and iPadOS systems. We still hope to eventually bring Siri AI to the EU market and will continue to communicate with EU regulators to seek a way forward."

Apple stated that Siri AI is open for developer testing on Monday and will be launched in English version as a beta later this year; in addition, EU users can still use Siri AI features in subsequent operating system versions on Mac, Vision Pro, and Apple Watch The company also stated that Siri AI will not be able to launch in China until the local regulatory compliance process is completed
