# The European Union stated that Apple has not met interoperability requirements and has not prohibited Apple from launching new products

European Commission spokesperson Thomas Regnier stated at a daily press conference in Brussels that the European Commission had communicated with Apple regarding its Siri AI technology, but the company was unable to develop an interoperability solution that met the requirements.

Regnier pointed out that Apple had requested at least an 18-month exemption from the interoperability requirements under the EU Digital Markets Act.

The European Commission rejected this request, stating that EU law is "non-negotiable."

He added that the Digital Markets Act does not prohibit Apple from launching new products.

"However, like other 'gatekeepers,' what Apple is not allowed to do is to close off the market."
