# Walmart extends into restaurant delivery with Subway deal

Competing with other restaurant delivery apps, Walmart is expanding its express delivery service to Subway orders at select locations starting this month. The move marks Walmart’s first restaurant integration for express delivery, with Subway being the retailer’s largest in-store restaurant tenant.

The Subway delivery option is now available through Walmart’s website and app at locations across Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Texas, per a Thursday announcement. The service will expand to about 1,400 locations by the end of the summer and can be used in conjunction with other Walmart merchandise orders or on its own.

“The integration of Subway delivery into the Walmart app and Walmart.com is a natural evolution of our 20-year relationship built on a shared commitment to value, freshness and everyday convenience,” Damien Harmon, president of Subway North America, said in a statement.

The pricing on Subway orders will be consistent with in-restaurant menus, the announcement said.

The move comes as well-known restaurant delivery services have been partnering more with retailers to deliver merchandise. Uber Eats this year debuted a retail returns service and Ulta Beauty announced it would allow customers to purchase products through the platform. Additionally, DoorDash this year announced partnerships with Foot Lockerand Family Dollar.

Walmart’s first quarter revenue increased 7.3%year over year to $177.8 billion. Global and Walmart U.S. e-commerce sales grew 26% during the period. The mass retailer maintained its full-year guidance.
