# JP Morgan: Old equipment will hinder the implementation of Apple's Siri artificial intelligence features

Morgan Stanley stated in a research report released on Tuesday that Apple's newly launched AI version of Siri will have limited use on its vast existing devices, as older iPhone models cannot support advanced AI functionalities.

The brokerage noted that over 850 million iPhones cannot even execute basic Apple smart function commands, and more than 1.3 billion iPhones are unable to use the advanced features of the new Siri.

This long-awaited comprehensive upgrade of Siri was a key highlight of Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference on Monday. The world's highest market capitalization smartphone manufacturer hopes to leverage this feature to catch up with competitors like OpenAI's ChatGPT, Google's Gemini, and Anthropic's Claude.

Morgan Stanley cautioned that relying on software advantages to drive hardware sales is not an easy task, even though the AI experience has become one of the main factors driving users to upgrade their devices.

According to information on Apple's official website, the AI version of Siri is only supported on the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and iPhone 16 and later models.

The brokerage pointed out that the usage bottleneck of the new Siri and various AI tools mainly lies in chip architecture and memory. Since Apple's smart functions heavily rely on edge computing, devices must be equipped with 12GB of unified memory to run Siri's advanced features
