# Telia Partners With Brookfield and KTH For Sovereign AI in Sweden

By Dominic Chopping

STOCKHOLM--Swedish telecommunications operator Telia, Brookfield Asset Management and Stockholm university KTH Royal Institute of Technology agreed to form a partnership to jointly develop sovereign artificial-intelligence services and applications in Sweden.

Under the memorandum of understanding, the partnership is aimed at building scalable sovereign AI capabilities, including services based on large language models and KTH software.

The partnership is intended to address the evolving technology needs of Swedish businesses and organizations in sectors such as healthcare, education, manufacturing and critical infrastructure, its members said in a joint statement Monday.

The agreement builds on the Swedish sovereign AI program announced earlier this year by Telia and Brookfield, which saw Brookfield outline plans to invest up to 95 billion kronor ($10 billion) in Swedish AI infrastructure with a Telia unit set to operate and deliver AI services on top of this infrastructure.

"The addition of KTH reinforces the partnership between Brookfield and Telia and marks another important step in supporting Sweden's ambition to become a leader in AI," said Sikander Rashid, head of AI infrastructure for Brookfield.

"As demand for AI services continues to grow across Europe, success will depend on a strong ecosystem that brings together infrastructure, connectivity and innovation."

The partners will also explore the development of an AI test bed and activities to create AI ventures, hosted by KTH. These projects could provide researchers with greater access to the latest AI technologies, help entrepreneurs and companies bring innovations to market faster, and serve as a platform for attracting further talent, investment and research to Sweden, they said.
