# MDA Space Buys Blue Canyon for $620 Million, Shares Rise 4%

MDA Space will acquire Blue Canyon Technologies in an all-cash $620 million deal, giving the Canadian space company a possible opening into classified US defense work. Blue Canyon, currently owned by RTX , is based in Colorado and manufactures spacecraft and satellite components.

CEO Mike Greenley told analysts that Blue Canyon's security clearance could allow MDA to pursue classified opportunities in the US. He also noted that most of Blue Canyon's $3.5 billion opportunity pipeline, and about 75% of its revenue, is defense-related, which could make the acquisition a meaningful step into the world's largest available defense market.

MDA shares rose 4% in Toronto to C$57.95 after the announcement. The deal is fully financed by senior secured debt, expected to close by year-end, and could boost adjusted earnings in 2027, while MDA continues to look at additional acquisition targets in the US and Europe.
