# NVIDIA's AI Footprint Expands Again! Data Center Ethernet Switch Revenue Soars 193%, Quietly Claiming Global Top Spot

NVIDIA's AI expansion has spread from chips to the entire network.

According to the latest data from IDC, NVIDIA became the revenue leader in the global data center Ethernet switch market for the first time in the first quarter of fiscal year 2026 (Q1 2026). This is a sector traditionally dominated by networking giants such as Broadcom and Cisco.

IDC data shows that NVIDIA's Ethernet switch revenue for the quarter reached $2.1 billion, a year-over-year increase of 192.7%, with its market share rising to 21.5%. IDC pointed out, "The most significant highlight of Q1 2026 is NVIDIA topping the data center Ethernet switch market."

This result directly reshapes the competitive landscape of the data center networking industry.

## Spectrum-X: NVIDIA's "Networking Weapon"

NVIDIA's victory this time relies on the Spectrum-X platform.

Spectrum-X is not a single product, but an end-to-end networking solution covering BlueField DPUs (Data Processing Units) and NVIDIA LinkX cables, designed specifically for large-scale GPU clusters.

Simply put, the logic of this system is: AI training requires thousands of GPUs working in concert, and the communication speed between GPUs directly determines training efficiency. Spectrum-X was born specifically for this "internal highway for GPUs."

IDC stated that Spectrum-X "captures the demand for AI factory network infrastructure from hyperscale cloud providers and enterprise customers through the co-design of GPUs and the network." In other words, customers who buy NVIDIA GPUs are also buying NVIDIA's networking solutions—the ecosystem lock-in effect is becoming evident.

## Rapid Overall Market Expansion

NVIDIA's rise is occurring within a rapidly expanding market.

According to IDC, the total revenue of the global data center Ethernet switch market in Q1 2026 reached $15.4 billion, a year-over-year increase of 39.8%. Among this, hyperscale cloud providers and enterprise data centers combined contributed $10 billion, a year-over-year increase of 61%.

Regionally, the Americas saw the fastest growth, up 49.7% year-over-year; Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) grew by 32.2%; and the Asia-Pacific region (APAC) grew by 25.9%.

Demand for high-speed switches is particularly strong. In Q1 2026, 800G switches accounted for 35.8% of data center revenue share, while 200G and 400G switches combined accounted for 34.1%, together contributing approximately 70% of global data center Ethernet revenue.

## From GPUs to Networking: NVIDIA's Full-Stack Ambition

This is not the first time NVIDIA has made efforts in non-GPU areas. Previously, NVIDIA announced the advancement of its Vera CPU business and plans to expand optical connectivity manufacturing capacity in the United States by tenfold through cooperation with Corning.

Now, topping the Ethernet switch market means NVIDIA is extending its reach to every link of AI infrastructure—from GPUs and CPUs to the networks connecting them.

IDC's data indicates that this "structural shift is reshaping the vendor landscape of the entire data center networking industry." For NVIDIA's competitors, this is not just a matter of market share, but a competition at the ecosystem level.
