Despite lower cloud gross margins and stagnant EPS revisions, Azure growth remains strong. The investment thesis holds that Microsoft is poised to convert AI infrastructure spending into profitable growth once margins stabilize, making the stock attractive at present levels."

# Microsoft (MSFT) Is Trading at a Rare Discount. I See a Buying Opportunity

Microsoft (MSFT) is trading at a rare discount, which makes me think the stock's poor performance this year looks overdone. The Redmond-based company known for its software, cloud services, and gaming innovations has become one of the most surprising laggards among mega-cap tech names this year. The main culprit appears to be Microsoft's hyper-aggressive artificial intelligence (AI) capex cycle, which has been weighing on cloud margins, free cash flow, and earnings per share (EPS) revisions.

These concerns are valid; after all, Microsoft Cloud gross margin has been moving lower, and analysts have not been revising near-term EPS estimates upward. However, I do not see this as a "broken" thesis, even though the stock seems priced that way. Microsoft's cloud business, Azure, continues to grow very strongly, as do the company's other businesses, even as the stock trades at unusually discounted levels versus its own history.

In my view, Microsoft is one step away from proving to the market that it can turn all this AI infrastructure spending into profitable growth, especially once cloud gross margins find a floor. For that reason, I see MSFT as a **Buy** at current levels, even if momentum may take a few more quarters to turn.
