GSK Boosts Vaccine Pipeline With New Adolescent dTpa Trial in Japan

The study, officially titled “A Phase 3, Non-randomized, Single-arm, Open-label Study to Assess the Immunogenicity, Safety and Reactogenicity of Combined Reduced-antigen-content Diphtheria, Tetanus and Acellular Pertussis (dTpa) Vaccine,” aims to test a booster shot in healthy Japanese adolescents aged 11 to under 13. It focuses on immune response and safety, which matters for long term vaccine use and regional growth.

The treatment is GSK’s reduced antigen dTpa vaccine given as a single booster dose on Day 1. It is designed to refresh protection against diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis in adolescents who were vaccinated as children.

This is a Phase 3 interventional study with one treatment group and no random assignment. All participants know they are receiving the dTpa shot, and the main goal is to see how well the booster prevents disease by boosting immunity.

The trial was first submitted on May 13, 2026, marking the formal start of the project on the registry. The latest update on July 7, 2026 shows the study is active and now recruiting, which is important for tracking progress toward key completion milestones.
