# Granite Construction (GVA) Stock Slides on an Analyst Downgrade

Granite Construction (GVA) stock started showing cracks on Thursday after the infrastructure contractor and construction materials company received a downgrade from a top Wall Street analyst. Four-star Goldman Sachs analyst Adam Bubes dropped GVA stock to a Sell rating from a Hold rating. He also lowered his price target for the shares to $139 from $141. Even with this cut, the new price target still represents a possible 5.9% upside for the shares.

Bubes shifted to a bearish stance on Granite Construction partially due to the company's turnaround. The company changed its focus to its materials business via a series of acquisitions over the past five years. While that change has pushed the shares higher, the Goldman Sachs analyst argued they have risen too much over that period of time and are now overvalued.

Adding to this argument, Bubes expects real public construction spending to slow significantly. The analyst sees growth in this market becoming flat or falling into the low-single-digit range. He attributed this to the end of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. With that in mind, it could become more difficult for Granite Construction to secure additional contracts without that bill. The firm also doesn't expect any new additions to its infrastructure work for Customs and Border Protection after 2026.
