# Apple Inc. officially sued OpenAI, accusing it of stealing trade secrets

Apple Inc. has recently filed a lawsuit against the artificial intelligence company OpenAI, accusing the firm that developed ChatGPT of illegally stealing Apple's trade secrets during the development of competitive hardware devices. This marks a sharp deterioration in the bilateral relationship between the two tech giants since they reached a technology cooperation agreement in 2024.

In the lawsuit, Apple pointed out that several former employees who left the company to join OpenAI illegally took confidential technical information when changing positions. Apple claims that OpenAI is currently working hard to develop its own branded hardware devices, aiming to reduce reliance on third-party channels and directly reach end consumers, and that this development work illegally utilizes Apple's intellectual property. In response to the allegations, OpenAI has issued a statement publicly denying them.

Analysts note that this lawsuit completely signals the end of the early cooperative honeymoon period between the two companies. In 2024, Apple had reached a strategic agreement with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT into Apple's Siri voice assistant ecosystem. However, as OpenAI's strategic focus has shifted towards hardware manufacturing, direct conflicts between the two parties in the core consumer electronics arena have become inevitable
