# Samsung has started preparations for the production of Tesla's AI5 chip

Industry insiders revealed on Monday that Samsung Electronics has begun preparations to manufacture Tesla's next-generation artificial intelligence chip, AI5. Previously, a Samsung executive posted on LinkedIn stating that the Tesla AI5 chip has completed tape-out, which signifies that all final design work before mass production of the chip has been completed. Tape-out is the final stage of chip design, where the chip design files are finalized and delivered to the foundry for subsequent mass production. AI5 is a custom chip developed by Tesla, which will provide computing power support for the company's Full Self-Driving (FSD) system, Optimus humanoid robot, and artificial intelligence data center. The post indicates that the AI5 chip will use Samsung's 2-nanometer process and will be produced at Samsung's factory in Taylor, Texas, with expectations to be featured in Tesla's next-generation products soon. This disclosure marks the first time the market has learned about the detailed production timeline for Samsung's manufacturing of the Tesla AI5 chip. The Taylor foundry is expected to start trial production later this year, with large-scale production for Tesla and other core clients officially commencing in 2027
