# Star Ferry Applies to Govt for 30% Fare Hike

Star Ferry, a member of WHARF HOLDINGS (00004.HK) -0.100 (-0.527%) Short selling $3.15M; Ratio 19.247% , has applied to the government for a 30% fare increase, with each trip rising by HKD0.8 to HKD2.

Among the proposed adjustments, weekday upper deck fares for the Tsim Sha Tsui-Central and Wan Chai routes will hike from HKD5 to HKD6.5, while weekend and holiday upper deck fares will add from HKD6.5 to HKD8.5.

Star Ferry explained that it expects to continue facing heavy financial pressure in the coming years due to rising staff costs, vessel repair and maintenance expenses, pier operating expenditures and fuel costs. The company said fare adjustments are necessary to maintain financial viability.
