# Junshi Biosciences Wins NMPA Nod to Expand Toripalimab Use in Early-Stage Lung Cancer

An announcement from Shanghai Junshi Biosciences Co., Ltd. Class H ( (HK:1877) ) is now available.

Shanghai Junshi Biosciences has received acceptance from China’s National Medical Products Administration for a supplemental application to expand the approved indication of its PD-1 inhibitor toripalimab (TUOYI). The revision seeks to use toripalimab plus platinum-based chemotherapy as perioperative treatment, followed by toripalimab monotherapy as adjuvant therapy, in adult patients with resectable stage II–III non-small cell lung cancer, broadening the current label from stage IIIA–IIIB.

The application is backed by the phase III NEOTORCH trial in 501 resectable stage II–III NSCLC patients, which showed toripalimab plus chemotherapy significantly improved event-free survival versus chemotherapy alone, cut the risk of recurrence or death by about 60%, and dramatically boosted major pathological and complete remission rates. Acceptance of this expanded indication underscores toripalimab’s potential to reshape perioperative NSCLC care in China, strengthening Junshi’s immuno-oncology portfolio and offering more effective treatment options for a high-burden cancer with historically limited benefits from chemotherapy alone.

Shanghai Junshi Biosciences Co., Ltd. is a China-based biopharmaceutical company focused on developing and manufacturing innovative oncology therapies. Its core products include toripalimab (TUOYI), a domestically developed anti-PD-1 monoclonal antibody targeting solid tumors, with a growing presence in perioperative and adjuvant treatment settings for non-small cell lung cancer in the Chinese market.

The company operates in the highly competitive immuno-oncology segment, where PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors have become standard of care for multiple cancer indications. By advancing toripalimab across broader stages of resectable NSCLC, Junshi is positioning itself as a key domestic player in China’s rapidly expanding market for immune checkpoint inhibitors, aiming to capture demand in earlier-stage, surgically resectable disease.
