Although record vehicle deliveries helped revenue edge past Wall Street expectations, profitability came in well below forecasts as lower vehicle pricing and continued spending weighed on margins. ### Claim 55% Off TipRanks TSLQ: built for a short position on TSLA Tesla posted record revenue of $28.2 billion, up 26% year over year, but adjusted earnings came in at just $0.33 per share, well below Wall Street expectations of $0.51. Operating margin collapsed to 1.4% from 4.1% a year earlier, adjusted EBITDA margin fell to 11.6% from 15.1%, and free cash flow turned negative at -$1.1 billion as capital expenditures climbed to $5.8 billion. The combination of rapid revenue growth and deteriorating profitability has long been at the heart of the Tesla investment case. For one investor, known by the pseudonym Geneva Investor, those trade-offs are part of the appeal rather than a reason to stay away. The investor believes Tesla remains one of the market's most compelling long-term opportunities, while acknowledging that the stock is unlikely to suit investors looking for predictable results. "TSLA stock remains a long-term conviction holding for its unique moat in robotics and AI but is unsuitable for investors seeking traditional value or short-term certainty," states the 5-star investor. Geneva does not dismiss Tesla's core businesses, arguing that both its electric vehicle and energy operations continue to expand. At the same time, the investor believes those businesses represent only part of the company's long-term value proposition. "It is no secret that Tesla is promising far more than simply selling cars to consumers," adds Geneva. Instead, Geneva remains focused on Tesla's robotaxi program and the progress management is making toward broader commercialization. The investor believes regulatory approvals at both the state and federal levels will ultimately determine how fast that business can expand. Geneva's greatest source of optimism, however, remains Optimus. The investor describes Tesla's humanoid robot program as "the real potential catalyst" and believes meaningful progress there could have a much larger impact on the stock than another quarter of strong vehicle deliveries. Unlike robotaxis, Geneva also expects the robotics business to encounter fewer regulatory hurdles as development continues. Taken together, Geneva believes investors should avoid placing too much weight on any single quarterly report and instead focus on Tesla's longer-term opportunities. "I keep seeing it as a company with a near-unbeatable moat of producing integrated software and hardware solutions in robotics and AI," sums up Geneva, who rates TSLA shares a Strong Buy. (To watch Geneva Investor's track record, click here) Wall Street, for its part, prefers to wait and see. With 8 Buys, 16 Holds, and 3 Sells, TSLA carries a consensus Hold (i.e., Neutral) rating. Its 12-month average price target of $397.05 points to gains of 6% from Wednesday's closing price.
