Melker argued Strategy is no longer simply a company that raises capital and immediately converts it into Bitcoin. Instead, it is managing a complex financial structure built around common stock, convertible debt, preferred securities and its massive BTC treasury. "Strategy has accepted that they are a company that has to financially engineer a complex balance sheet around Bitcoin," Melker said. The company’s decision to build cash reserves follows criticism over its previous move to repay more than $1 billion of convertible debt, which reduced its liquidity buffer. By restoring its reserve, Strategy is attempting to reassure investors that it can meet its obligations without being forced to sell Bitcoin during a prolonged downturn. Melker said the company’s greatest threat is duration risk rather than a temporary decline in Bitcoin’s price. Lower Bitcoin prices would become a serious concern only if they persisted long enough to pressure Strategy’s ability to fund dividends, debt payments and other commitments. ## **STRC Buyback Sends A Signal** Strategy’s $25 million **STRC** (NASDAQ:STRC) repurchase represented only a small portion of the capital it raised. However, Melker said the purchase was likely intended to demonstrate that Strategy is willing to support the preferred stock when it trades significantly below its $100 par value. The company may also continue adjusting STRC’s dividend rate to push the security closer to par. These actions have weakened arguments that Strategy could become a forced seller or enter a so-called Bitcoin liquidation spiral. Melker said the company could resume buying if Bitcoin rises, its preferred securities recover or its funding conditions improve.
