Deutsche Bank announced a fresh EUR500 million share buyback following a sharp rise in quarterly profits. The bank reported a 2.68 billion euro pretax profit for the quarter ending June, an 11% increase year-over-year and exceeding analyst expectations. This new buyback adds to a recently completed EUR1 billion program, with finance chief Raja Akram citing strong positioning for business investment and shareholder returns.

Deutsche Bank said it will buy back another half a billion euros, equivalent to $569.3 million, in shares after booking a sharp rise in profit.

Germany's largest lender made 2.68 billion euros in pretax profit over the quarter through June, it said Wednesday. That marks an 11% rise from the same period last year and above the 2.25 billion euros expected by analysts, according to a company-compiled consensus.

The bank said it will use this year's net profit to buy back 500 million euros in its own shares, adding to a EUR1 billion buyback recently completed.

"We remain well positioned to invest in our businesses and deliver attractive shareholder returns," finance chief Raja Akram said.
