# Officially Joining the $3 Trillion Club! Amazon's Earnings Report Stuns, Stock Posts Biggest Single-Day Gain Since 2012

Amazon has broken into the top tier of global market capitalizations with a strong earnings report.

Amazon's stock rose more than 5% at one point during Monday's trading session, **with its market capitalization surpassing $3 trillion for the first time, making it the fifth company in history to reach this scale**, following only Nvidia, Alphabet, Microsoft, and Apple in achieving this milestone.

This rally extends the strong rebound following last week's earnings announcement—Amazon Web Services (AWS) revenue growth accelerated, triggering a full return of bullish sentiment in the market.

The single-day gain exceeded 15% last Friday, marking the largest single-day increase in over 14 years, with market capitalization rising by nearly $400 billion in a single day. With further gains this week, **Amazon has jumped to the top spot among the "Magnificent Seven" in year-to-date performance, with a cumulative gain of about 10% this year**, while other large-cap tech stocks have collectively recorded a gain of only about 2.1%.

## **AWS Accelerates Growth, Dispelling Major Market Concerns**

Over the past few months, Amazon's stock faced significant pressure. Investors grew increasingly skeptical about whether the massive capital expenditures by large tech companies betting on artificial intelligence would yield substantial returns. Amazon's stock fell continuously after hitting a historical high on May 6, accumulating a decline of nearly 18% by the time it touched a phase low last month.

The release of the second-quarter earnings report dispelled this pessimism. The report showed that AWS quarterly revenue year-over-year growth hit its fastest pace since 2021, directly addressing core market questions about whether the cloud computing business could absorb large-scale AI investments. This also drove a significant jump in the stock price, with the single-day increase in market capitalization being historically rare.

## **Valuation Remains Attractive, Upside Potential Recognized by Analysts**

In terms of market capitalization growth trajectory, Amazon's recent expansion has far exceeded historical speeds. The company first reached a $1 trillion market cap at the end of 2018 and then took over six years to break through the $2 trillion mark in June 2024.

However, it took only a little over two years to go from $2 trillion to $3 trillion, indicating a clear acceleration in crossing these milestones, reflecting a powerful revaluation of the company driven by the cloud computing and AI waves.

Despite the sharp rebound in stock price, Amazon's current valuation remains at a historically low level. **Based on a forward P/E ratio of approximately 25x for the next 12 months, it is about 44% lower than its ten-year average. Although it has significantly recovered from the 17-year valuation low touched in late March, it remains far below the historical mean.**

According to data compiled by Bloomberg, Wall Street analysts remain highly optimistic about Amazon's prospects. **The consensus price target still implies an upside potential of about 14% from the current stock price, indicating that institutions generally believe this rally has not exhausted valuation potential.**
