# Donald Trump: Strait of Hormuz to Open Soon, or Iran Will Face Strikes

U.S. President Donald Trump stated in an interview with Fox News on the 4th that the Strait of Hormuz would open “soon,” otherwise Iran would suffer “severe strikes.”

Regarding contacts with Iran, Trump said, “Our consultations are progressing very smoothly. The Iranian side is reluctant to admit it, which you know is somewhat embarrassing. You just announced externally that our talks went well, and then someone from the Iranian side jumped out to say, ‘We never even met.’ This is pure falsehood. They actually want to reach an agreement.”

When asked how the U.S. would respond if Iran withdrew from negotiations again, Trump replied, “If they renege again, they will suffer very severe strikes.” However, he also stated that he “hopes not to use it (the strikes).”

According to a report by the U.S. news website Axios on the 4th, two regional sources and one U.S. official stated that the United States, Iran, and Oman are “close to reaching” a temporary agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, with the U.S. side hoping to announce the achievement of the temporary agreement on the 5th.
