This surge is driven by soaring gold prices, which hit a two-month high near $4,350 per ounce following weak U.S. jobs data that reduced expectations for a Federal Reserve rate hike. Simultaneously, miners benefited from an 8% drop in crude oil prices, significantly lowering operating costs and creating a strong earnings tailwind." datetime: "2026-08-07T17:39:00.000Z" locales: - [zh-CN](https://longbridge.com/zh-CN/news/295265545.md) - [en](https://longbridge.com/en/news/295265545.md) - [zh-HK](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/news/295265545.md) generator: "portal-rs" --- # QUICK SPARK: Gold Miners ETF (GDX) On Pace For Best Week Since 2008 Gold-mining stocks just delivered one of their strongest weekly rallies in decades as investors piled into the sector following bullion gains. The **VanEck Gold Miners ETF** (NYSE:GDX) has rallied 21% for the week through midday Friday, putting it on track for its biggest weekly gain since December 2008. Miners received a powerful two-sided boost to earnings. On the revenue side, gold jumped more than 7% to a two-month high near $4,350 an ounce after July’s payrolls report showed the U.S. economy unexpectedly lost 23,000 jobs, versus expectations for an 80,000-job gain. The weaker labor data slashed expectations for a September Federal Reserve rate hike, sending investors rushing into bullion. At the same time, miners’ cost base improved sharply. Crude oil prices tumbled nearly 8% for the week, reducing one of the industry’s largest operating expenses. *Image: Shutterstock* ### Related Stocks - [SGOL.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/SGOL.US.md) - [GLDM.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/GLDM.US.md) - [GLD.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/GLD.US.md) - [UGL.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/UGL.US.md) - [BNO.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/BNO.US.md) - [UCO.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/UCO.US.md) - [GDX.AU](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/GDX.AU.md) - [GDXW.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/GDXW.US.md) - [USO.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/USO.US.md) - [SGDM.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/SGDM.US.md) - [GDXY.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/GDXY.US.md) - [GDXU.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/GDXU.US.md) - [GDX.UK](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/GDX.UK.md) - [GDX.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/GDX.US.md) ## Related News & Research - [Goldman continues to see net upside risk to $4,900/oz end-2026 gold forecast](https://longbridge.com/en/news/298762264.md) - [PRECIOUS-Gold holds steady as investors await Fed policy cues](https://longbridge.com/en/news/298984397.md) - [PRECIOUS-Gold slips as oil gains strengthen case for elevated interest rates](https://longbridge.com/en/news/299013280.md) - [IEA warns 2026 oil supply gap will widen on delayed return of normal Gulf flows](https://longbridge.com/en/news/298704166.md) - [ROI-Oil markets survived the Iran war sprint.
