# Saudi firm to develop 760MW solar projects near Damascus

By Majda Muhsen

Saudi and Syrian companies have signed power purchase agreements (PPAs) to develop three solar power projects with a combined capacity of 760 megawatts (MW) in the Wadiyan Al-Rabee area of rural Damascus, Saudi news platform Akhbaar 24 reported last week.

Three PPAs were signed between Saudi-based Mohammed Ahmed Al-Harfi Company and the Syrian Electricity Company, the report said, adding that the PPAs will have terms ranging from 20 to 25 years, with electricity tariffs starting at 3 US cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh).

The three projects will be integrated with battery energy storage systems (BESS) with combined capacity of 1,077 megawatt-hours (MWh), the report said.

Two technical cooperation agreements were also signed with Projects Development Company (PDC), part of Saudi Electricity Company, and Germany's Siemens Energy.

PDC will provide consultancy and engineering services while Siemens Energy will provide services covering substations, power generation and BESS, the report said.
