# China's Urban Fixed Asset Investment Falls 6.7% in January-July; Aviation, Aerospace and Equipment Manufacturing Grows 19.2%

China's fixed asset investment declined in January-July, while investment in intellectual property products grew rapidly.

On August 17, the National Bureau of Statistics released data showing that from January to July, national fixed asset investment (excluding rural households) amounted to 26,032.8 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 6.7% (calculated on a comparable basis, see Note 7 for details). Among this, investment in intellectual property products increased by 9.1% year-on-year.

By sector, infrastructure investment fell 3.6% year-on-year, manufacturing investment dropped 1.7%, and real estate development investment declined 19.2%.

**Investment in high-tech industries rose 5.0% year-on-year, with investments in the information services sector, aviation, aerospace and equipment manufacturing, and electronics and communications equipment manufacturing growing by 19.2%, 12.3%, and 7.1%, respectively.**

**By industry,** investment in the primary industry was 532.9 billion yuan, down 0.5% year-on-year; investment in the secondary industry was 9,770.9 billion yuan, down 2.1%; and investment in the tertiary industry was 15,729.0 billion yuan, down 9.5%.

Industrial investment decreased by 2.1% year-on-year. Specifically, investment in mining grew by 3.3%, manufacturing investment fell by 1.7%, and investment in the production and supply of electricity, heat, gas, and water dropped by 5.3%.

Infrastructure investment (see Note 1 for scope) fell 3.6% year-on-year. Among these, investment in the information transmission sector grew by 26.0%, water transport investment increased by 16.2%, and air transport investment rose by 15.7%.

**By region,** investment in the eastern region fell 8.6% year-on-year, the central region saw a 6.4% decline, the western region dropped 8.6%, and the northeastern region experienced a significant 24.6% decrease.

By registration type, fixed asset investment by domestic-funded enterprises fell 6.4% year-on-year, investment by enterprises from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan dropped 8.1%, and investment by foreign-funded enterprises declined 5.4%.

From January to July, private fixed asset investment decreased by 9.4% year-on-year. On a month-on-month basis, fixed asset investment (excluding rural households) fell by 1.42% in July.
