# Trump Administration Accelerates Winter Gasoline Sales to Ease Fuel Price Pressure

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced an exemption from summer gasoline standards, a move expected to increase domestic gasoline supply by hundreds of thousands of barrels per day.

On Thursday, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced a relaxation of summer gasoline standard requirements, allowing the sale of winter-formula gasoline blended with 10% ethanol starting September 1, approximately two weeks earlier than the usual switch-over time.

The Trump administration stated that this move would increase domestic daily gasoline supply by hundreds of thousands of barrels and is expected to further alleviate the burden on consumers at gas stations. EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin stated:

> President Trump has always prioritized ensuring that American families have access to affordable gasoline and energy.

However, the actual impact of this exemption policy on oil prices depends to some extent on how quickly states respond to the federal policy adjustment, as some states have their own independent gasoline standard requirements.

## Multi-Pronged Approach: The U.S. Government Has Taken a Series of Measures to Lower Oil Prices

**Summer low-volatility gasoline formulas are mandatory in most areas to reduce air pollution during the high-temperature season, but their blending costs are higher.**

This exemption allows refiners and distributors to switch pump formulations ahead of schedule in areas plagued by smog issues, effectively terminating summer gasoline requirements early and releasing more supply.

Winter-formula gasoline emits relatively more pollutants when burned, and the switch-over time was previously typically set for mid-September.

**The early release of winter gasoline sales is one of a series of measures recently introduced by the Trump administration to lower fuel prices.** Previously, the government had taken measures to allow foreign vessels to transport oil between U.S. ports and approved the expansion of E15 gasoline sales containing 15% ethanol during the summer.

According to data from the American Automobile Association (AAA), the average U.S. gasoline price has remained above $4 per gallon since mid-July, rising by about $1 per gallon compared to the escalation of tensions with Iran, marking the highest level for this period in history.

The Department of Energy recently raised its monthly oil price forecast because the U.S. and Iran failed to reach an agreement to end the conflict and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, with geopolitical tensions continuing to pressure the global energy supply chain. The Department of Energy expects high oil prices to persist through the end of the year.
