# ByteDance Merges AI Teams Into Doubao to Challenge Tencent WorkBuddy Lead

ByteDance merged its core AI developer teams into its flagship Doubao chatbot to challenge the market lead held by Tencent's WorkBuddy. The company combined the engineering groups behind coding platform Trae and agent-building tool Coze directly into the Doubao organization. ByteDance also plans to launch a standalone application named Doubao Work to expand its presence across the corporate productivity space.

The strategic push targets market leader Tencent (TCEHY), whose WorkBuddy tool captured top positioning in China's AI workplace market with 21 million monthly visits in June. By folding its developer and creator assets into a single ecosystem, ByteDance aims to convert standalone tools into a unified platform capable of taking on Tencent's dominant workplace presence.

The reorganization advances ByteDance's push to build Doubao into an all-in-one AI super-app. The platform already lets users create videos and produce images. To align technical resources, ByteDance previously merged its enterprise workplace app Lark, known as Feishu in China, into the Doubao organization.

At the same time, ByteDance's overall brand presence continues to grow, with corporate follower counts rising steadily to 1.55 million as of August 24, 2026.
