# 2 Discount Retailers Gearing Up for Earnings

Discount retailers **Dollar General Corp (NYSE:DG)** and **Dollar Tree Inc (NASDAQ:DLTR)** are both scheduled to report second-quarter earnings before the open on Thursday, Aug. 27. Analysts at Zacks Research, Dollar General is expected to report earnings of $2.00 per share on revenue of $11.17 billion, representing year-over-year increases of 7.5% and 4.2%, respectively. Meanwhile, Zacks' analysts expect Dollar Tree report earnings of $1.12 per share on revenue of $4.85 billion, with the midpoint of the earnings range representing roughly 45% growth and revenue expected to rise 6.3%. Investors will be watching both reports for signs of value-seeking consumer traffic, merchandising trends, and the outlook for the remainder of the year.

**Dollar General stock** was last seen up 0.7% at $124.24, though the shares remain down 6.4% in 2026. The 200-day moving average is keeping a firm ceiling on gains. **Dollar Tree stock**, on the other hand, was last seen 2.7% higher at $135.06, trading at its highest level since February. Year to date, DLTR is up 9.9%.

Options traders are pricing in a 12.5% post-earnings move for DG, regardless of direction, which is above the stock's average reaction of 9.9% over the last eight quarters. The shares finished lower after their two most recent reports, including a 3.3% drop in June and a 6.1% decline in March.

For Dollar Tree, options traders are pricing in a 13.2% post-earnings move, regardless of direction, compared to the stock's average reaction of 8.9% over the last eight quarters. DLTR has finished higher after four of its last six reports, including a 17.9% surge following its late-May results.

There is also plenty of pessimism surrounding Dollar Tree ahead of the event. Short interest represents 5.2% of the stock's available float. At the International Securities Exchange (ISE), Cboe Options Exchange (CBOE), and NASDAQ OMX PHLX (PHLX), DLTR's 50-day put/call volume ratio of 2.46 ranks higher than 86% of readings from the past year. This leaves room for an unwinding of bearish sentiment should the retailer deliver an upbeat earnings report.
