# Tesla's Biggest Robotaxi Test Arrives Sept. 3

Tesla Inc. (TSLA, Financials) is poised to shine a lot stronger light on one of the biggest pieces of its valuation story.

The company will show off the production version of its Cybercab on Sept. 3 in Austin, offering investors a closer look at the vehicle Tesla believes can lead to a much larger robotaxi service. The Cybercab is exclusively designed for autonomy.

It does not have a steering wheel or pedals and is designed to run on Tesla's Full Self-Driving software as part of a larger ride-hailing network. So this launch is bigger than just a usual vehicle reveal.

The belief that autonomous driving could one day become a high-margin software and mobility business is a big portion of Tesla's premium value. And the corporation is beginning to get more room to prove out that argument.

Nevada just permitted Tesla to operate as many as 5,000 robotaxis in Clark County, home to Las Vegas. Tesla has indicated it hopes to have roughly 2,500 vehicles on the road in a year's time.

That means it might deploy more vehicles than Waymo, which was authorized for up to 1,000. Tesla still has a lot to show, especially on safety, regulation and real-world reliability. But Sept. 3 may offer investors their best view yet of how close the Cybercab is to transitioning from idea to practical reality.
