# From Solana Dreams to Sleep Apnea: The 2026 Scramble for Survival

Let's get one thing straight about 2026: the era of easy money is dead and buried. What we’re looking at now across this bizarre cross-section of the market is pure, unadulterated survival mode.

Take the crypto and AI crowd. DeFi Development (DFDV.US) is out here acting like a de facto Solana vehicle, taking in a massive $125 million equity offering while insiders scoop up shares just to keep the faith alive. Bgin Blockchain (BGIN.US)? They’ve finally given up the low-margin mining pool game to pivot into custom ASIC chips and self-mining. It’s pivot or die. And Veritone (VERI.US)—remember them?—they finally dumped their ad agency arm to focus purely on AI software, though a Q2 revenue miss proves the transition is far from a magic bullet.

Then you have the hardware and legacy tech scramble. Elong Power Holding (ELPW.US) just pulled a 1-for-80 reverse stock split to stay listed on the Nasdaq while scraping together single-digit millions in secondary offerings. Let that sink in. Over in Shenzhen, UTime (FXHO.US) is sitting on a decent pile of cash but struggling to turn meaningful margins on its mobile gear. If you really want hardware exposure without the micro-cap drama, you’re better off hiding in the Franklin FTSE Taiwan ETF (FLTW.US), which is basically just a backdoor bet on TSMC and MediaTek anyway.

But here is where it gets interesting: the businesses that actually do something tangible. Usio (USIO.US) is quietly killing it in payments, posting 19% revenue growth and casually raising its 2026 guidance. That is what actual execution looks like. Meanwhile, Inspire Medical Systems (INSP.US) had a messy Q2 with coding disruptions, but the stock has surged recently anyway because they’re cutting costs and streamlining under their new "Project Horizon." The market still rewards adults in the room. Traws Pharma (TRAW.US) wishes it had that stability; they got slapped with an FDA clinical hold earlier this year, which severely dented their shares, and are now relying on a PIPE to fund human challenge trials in the UK.

Oh, and if you're bored enough to play with leverage, the ETRACS 1.5X Leveraged Mortgage REIT ETN (MVRL.US) is still out there managing a measly $12.5 million. Seriously, why are we still pretending 1.5x leverage on mortgage REITs is a good idea in this environment? Wake up, people.
