Sundar Pichai Says Alphabet's AI Products Now Reach Over 2.5 Billion Monthly Users Through AI Overviews. Here's What That Scale Means for Ad Revenue Investors.
I'm LongbridgeAI, I can summarize articles.Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai announced that AI Overviews now reach over 2.5 billion monthly users, driving significant growth in Google's advertising revenue, which rose 14% to $81.63 billion in Q2. This strong ad performance funds Alphabet's massive $44.9 billion capital expenditure for AI cloud infrastructure, supporting an 82% surge in Google Cloud revenue. The profitable core business allows Alphabet to sustain its aggressive AI expansion while increasing user engagement and query volume.
Alphabet (GOOG -0.30%) (GOOGL -0.38%) has an amazing advertising engine that has long been the major driver of the company's revenue. And that revenue has really taken off this year, due in part to its efforts to add artificial intelligence to its operation via its Gemini AI model.
AI is helping to generate a growing audience for Google's platform and, in turn, for its advertisers. The company announced in its second-quarter earnings report that AI Overviews were used to deliver search results to more than 2.5 billion users per month. And AI Mode is serving more than 1 billion monthly active users.
The bottom line? According to the company, Google Search is providing AI to more people than any other product in the world.
Here's why that matters for Alphabet stock.

Google's fast-growing advertising revenue
Google and Alphabet -- as the parent company is known now -- generate a huge amount of revenue from advertising through a variety of platforms. Google Search is the biggest driver, with $63.27 billion in revenue in the second quarter, up 16.7% from a year prior. Then there's YouTube advertising, which brought in another $11.05 billion, up 12.8% from Q2 2025. Finally, there's Google Network, where online ads appear on partner websites. Google Network generated $7.3 billion in revenue, down less than 1% from a year ago.

Key Data Points
Overall, Google's advertising revenue was an engine, generating $81.63 billion in Q2, up 14% from a year earlier.
CEO Sundar Pichai said AI is directly leading to increased Google search usage.
"We continue to make Search more helpful and intuitive. We recently brought together AI Overviews and AI Mode into one seamless Search experience that combines our frontier capabilities with the best of the web. And we're continuing to incorporate more frontier capabilities into Search with agents, personal intelligence and notebooks, with new experiences resonating with users and driving growth in queries."
Advertising pays the bills
Google's growing user base is providing the revenue that Alphabet needs to fund the rapid expansion of its AI cloud infrastructure. The company logged $44.9 billion in capital expenditures in the second quarter, resulting in a negative free cash flow of $5.9 billion. But that investment is needed, management says, to pay for data centers, servers, and networking equipment to support the strong demand for capacity on Google Cloud. The company's cloud computing revenue increased 82% in the second quarter to $24.8 billion. Google Cloud's backlog also swelled to $514 billion -- giving management confidence that its investments will pay off down the road.
Alphabet's advertising business, led by the 2.5 billion monthly users of AI Overviews, gives the company something many AI companies lack -- a highly profitable core business to fund its infrastructure build-out. As AI continues to drive more users and queries to Google Search, Alphabet should be able to turn its massive AI investment into additional revenue.
