# Alibaba Issues 710 Million New Shares in Hong Kong Placement, Expands Share Capital in Late August 2026

Alibaba ( (BABA) ) has shared an update.

On August 26, 2026, Alibaba reported to U.S. regulators that, as a Hong Kong-listed issuer, it had filed a Next Day Disclosure Return with the Hong Kong Stock Exchange detailing changes in its share capital. The filing, signed by company secretary Kevin Jinwei Zhang, reflects Alibaba’s obligation to report movements in its issued shares under Hong Kong listing rules, underscoring the firm’s dual listing compliance framework.

According to the disclosure, Alibaba increased its issued ordinary share capital through a placing of 710 million new shares under a general mandate, following an earlier announcement on August 24, 2026. The issuance, completed on August 26, 2026 at HK$112.7 per share, expanded the company’s outstanding shares by about 3.7% to 19.885 billion, a move that modestly dilutes existing shareholders but potentially strengthens the company’s capital base and funding capacity.

**Spark’s Take on BABA Stock**

According to Spark, TipRanks’ AI Analyst, BABA is a Neutral.

The score is held back primarily by weakening financial performance and cash flow reliability (sharp margin/ROE compression and negative free cash flow), partially offset by a solid balance sheet and a relatively constructive earnings narrative around accelerating AI + Cloud growth. Technicals add modest support via improving momentum, while valuation (P/E 27.25 with a ~0.88% yield) does not provide a strong cushion.
