# Oracle Stock Gains as Citi Says ORCL's 'Historic Sell-Off' Is an Opportunity

Oracle (ORCL) stock rose more than 2% in Wednesday's early trading after Citi said the company's "historic sell-off has created an opportunity." The bank reiterated a Buy rating and $330 price target and opened a 90-day positive catalyst watch on the stock.

Citi described the decline as "one of the most extreme dislocations and drawdowns in the stock's history." Oracle shares fell more than 50% from their peak in just 30 to 40 days, with Citi attributing the move to "investor capitulation and technical selling factors," including credit spreads and at-the-market equity issuance.

The call comes ahead of Oracle's Q1 FY27 earnings report and investor day in late October. Citi expects those events to provide more information on the company's growth and the outlook behind its higher estimates.

## **What's Behind Citi's Bullish View on Oracle**

Citi believes some of the selling pressure on Oracle has eased. The bank noted that bond and credit-default-swap spreads have recovered, suggesting some of the pressure that weighed on the stock is starting to fade. Oracle added more than $85 billion in sequential backlog in its May quarter, which Citi highlighted as a sign of strong demand for its cloud services.

The bank also pointed to strong second-quarter updates from neocloud providers such as CoreWeave (CRWV). Strong AI demand has helped these companies raise prices and improve margins. Citi expects Oracle to see similar benefits from its newly signed contracts.

That view is reflected in Citi's higher estimates for fiscal 2028 through 2030. The bank now expects Oracle to earn $22 per share in FY2030, compared with Oracle's own $21 target and consensus of about $20.

## **Is Oracle Stock a Buy Now?**

Wall Street has a Strong Buy consensus rating on Oracle stock based on 28 Buys and four Holds. The average ORCL stock price target of $257.79 indicates 74% upside potential.
