Wall Street ended lower, with the Dow off 0.79%, the S&P 500 down 0.71% and the Nasdaq down 1.03%. Nikkei 225 futures for the September contract closed the Osaka Exchange night session at 64,880, down 1,270 points, as of 06:00. The contract opened at 66,010, reached a high of 66,050 and a low of 64,650, on volume of 11,831 contracts, as growth stocks came under pressure alongside the overnight decline in U.S. chipmakers. South Korea's KOSPI 200 night futures fell around 3%, according to Korean media citing Kiwoom Securities analyst Han Ji-young, who said domestic stocks were set to open lower on the oil and yield pressure but could pare losses on bargain hunting and after-hours strength in U.S. names such as Dell. Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index futures ended the night session at 25,176, up 4 points, while the China H-share/China-concept index eased 0.3% to 6,054. In ADR terms converted to Hong Kong dollars, HSBC firmed 0.97% versus its local close, Alibaba's U.S. shares edged up 0.19%, Tencent slipped 0.36% and Meituan fell 1.13%.
