Costco's (COST) shares closed in the red over the past two trading sessions. The stock further edged lower to around $928 per share early Thursday. This followed reports that the American wholesale retailer has shut down Costco Next, its third-party discount platform. Mizuho analyst David Bellinger believes the move could result in slight profit margin loss for Costco. ## **Costco Shuts Down Costco Next** Costco introduced Costco Next in 2017 to compete with rival services from Amazon (AMZN) and Walmart (WMT). The platform offered Costco members heavy discounts on products from third-party sellers. The platform initially opened up to a few brands before the supplier base was expanded in 2021. This was part of Costco's push to increase its e-commerce presence. Costco Next offered access to various types of products, including clothing, home and kitchen, electronics, and sports. However, Bellinger in his new research report noted that his team's check shows that "Costco appears to be winding down its Costco Next marketplace offering." The analyst noted that Costco previously lined up about 100 vendors to offer select products on the platform. "Access to Costco Next storefronts is no longer available," a note on Costco website reads. ## **Why Mizuho Remains Bullish on Costco Stock** In the new report, Mizuho's Bellinger reaffirmed his Buy rating on Costco stock. He also kept his price target at $1,100, implying about 18% upside. The analyst noted that gross merchandise volume from Costco Next was likely small. Still, the Mizuho team "had viewed this nascent part of the model as an interesting growth angle." This is especially so as Costco's management had said volume on this platform was seeing a "healthy" year-over-year volume growth. This stood at 20% and above over the past year. The pace of volume growth was faster than Costco's overall digital volume, Bellinger noted. Nonetheless, the analyst prefers to wait on more updates from Costco on the move. "We await a further update from the company and \[would like to know\] if these products are simply being moved into COST's first-party online operation," Bellinger noted. ## **Is Costco a Good Stock to Buy Now?** On Wall Street, analysts continue to consider Costco's shares as a Moderate Buy based on their consensus rating. This breaks down into 11 Buys, six Holds, and one Sell issued by 18 analysts over the past three months. However, the average COST price target of $1,085.05 implies about 17% upside in the months ahead (see **COST stock forecast** here). ### Related Stocks - [COST.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/COST.US.md) - [COTG.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/COTG.US.md) - [COSW.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/COSW.US.md) - [AMZN.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/AMZN.US.md) - [WMT.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/WMT.US.md) - [MFG.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/MFG.US.md) - [8411.JP](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/8411.JP.md) ## Related News & Research - [4,693 Shares in Costco Wholesale Corporation $COST Acquired by Blodgett Wealth Advisors LLC](https://longbridge.com/en/news/298126369.md) - [Jim Cramer Puts Costco Stock (COST) in the 'Penalty Box.'
