# Market Close: Nvidia Acquires Hugging Face; Tesla Surges Over 5% Ahead of Cybercab Launch

U.S. stocks closed broadly higher on September 3, with tech stocks leading the advance. Nvidia announced a **$12.93 billion** acquisition of open-source AI platform Hugging Face, sending shares up nearly 2% as they tested the $230 level. Tesla surged over **5%** ahead of its Cybercab launch event, while Palantir soared nearly **8%** in a standout performance. On the macro front, growing dissent within the Federal Reserve over further rate hikes pushed market expectations for a September hike below 50%.

Across sectors, AI and semiconductor stocks got a boost from Nvidia's acquisition news, with Intel also moving higher. The EV sector rallied collectively on Tesla's Cybercab catalyst. Cryptocurrency-linked names were notably active, with Mara and Cipher Digital each surging over 10%. Broadcom bucked the trend, falling nearly 3%.

**Semiconductor Sector Mixed: Nvidia Up Nearly 2%, Broadcom Down Nearly 3%**

At the close, Nvidia (NVDA) rose **1.78%** to **$228.41** on turnover of $131 million; Intel (INTC) gained **1.80%** to $91.67; Broadcom (AVGO) fell **2.74%** to $357.16.

In deal news, Nvidia confirmed it would acquire open-source AI platform Hugging Face for **$12.93 billion**—its largest acquisition to date—aimed at expanding its footprint in the generative AI ecosystem. Nvidia pledged to preserve Hugging Face's open ecosystem, allowing developers to independently choose hardware and frameworks. Separately, CEO Jensen Huang outlined his "five-layer cake" AI framework at the G20 summit, emphasizing that the AI economy spans energy, chips, infrastructure, models, and applications, with investment opportunities across the entire ecosystem.

**EV Sector Rallies: Tesla Surges Over 5%**

At the close, Tesla (TSLA) jumped **5.42%** to **$376.37** on turnover of $62.27 million; NIO (NIO) was flat at $3.86.

Tesla's Cybercab launch event, set to take place tonight in Austin, is seen as a critical test for the commercialization of autonomous driving. A Morgan Stanley research note highlighted that the pace of scaling an unsupervised Robotaxi fleet will determine the stock's trajectory for the rest of the year, maintaining a **$400** price target and Hold rating. A successful rollout of paid ride-hailing services could lift shares; failure to do so may weigh on the stock. Tesla at one point surged more than 7% intraday, its biggest gain since June.

**AI Tech Stocks Mostly Higher: Palantir Surges Nearly 8%**

At the close, Palantir (PLTR) soared **7.71%** to $182.53; Apple (AAPL) rose **1.00%** to $328.21; Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) gained **5.04%** to $54.44.

In related news, BASF filed a lawsuit against Apple in a Texas federal court, alleging that iPhones and iPads infringe on its facial recognition technology patents. Meanwhile, Meta shares rose 3.24% to $612.07 after reaching a $18 billion youth safety settlement with states, with Morgan Stanley suggesting this could accelerate AI product launches.

**Crypto-Linked Stocks Surge Across the Board**

At the close, Mara (MARA) surged **10.79%** to $11.60; Cipher Digital (CIFR) jumped **14.43%** to $17.37; BitMine Immersion Tech (BMNR) soared **14.70%** to $26.45—all three posting double-digit gains.

**Macro: Fed Rate Hike Expectations Cool**

Fed Governor Waller opposed a September rate hike, citing a declining inflation trend, putting him at odds with Chair Warsh's previously stated support for tightening. Market expectations for a rate hike fell **below 50%**. Traders will closely monitor the August employment and inflation data over the next two weeks to gauge the Fed's policy direction ahead of its mid-September meeting.

Elsewhere, Campbell's (CPB) fell **6.96%** to $22.13; Ford Motor (F) rose **1.91%** to $14.41.
