SGX daily securities trading value jumps 35% to $2.2b in August

The SDAV was also 8% higher month on month (MoM). Total securities market turnover rose 29% YoY to $43.3b.

Retail activity rose 11% MoM in small- and mid-cap stocks and 22% in real estate investment trusts, with investors buying during market pullbacks, the SGX Group said.

On a yearly basis, trading in Straits Times Index (STI) constituents climbed 44% to $1.5b. The benchmark extended its rally and reached a month-end high of 5,755.36.

STI exchange-traded funds recorded an 18th consecutive month of net inflows, totalling $1.6b and lifting assets under management to $5.8b.

Daily average volume for SGX Straits Times Index Futures more than doubled month on month, whilst open interest reached a record $49.5m in notional value on 28 August.

Open interest in SGX MSCI Singapore Index Futures rose to $11.8b in notional value at month-end, whilst daily average volume reached an all-time high of $2.98b.

Foreign-exchange derivatives posted strong growth as US dollar weakness increased portfolio hedging. Total listed FX derivatives volume jumped 47% YoY to 8.1 million contracts.

Overall derivatives traded volume, however, slipped 1% to 27.1 million contracts, with daily average volume down 2% to 1.3 million contracts.

Secondary fundraising on the bourse reached $3.57b in the first eight months.
