The move into one of Southeast Asia's fastest-growing EV markets would help the company strengthen its presence in a lucrative region. Despite news on the company's Vietnam expansion and CEO Elon Musk's statement on the unveiling of the Roadster sports car, TSLA stock was down about 1.6% in Monday's pre-market trading amid broader market concerns about a potential AI slowdown, rate hike, and geopolitical risks. ## **Tesla Seeks Growth in Vietnam's EV Market** The new entity, Tesla Motors Vietnam Limited Liability Company, was registered in Ho Chi Minh City with charter capital of 77.667 billion dong ($3 million). Established on September 11, the subsidiary is authorized to ‌pursue wholesale and retail sales of automobiles, vehicle parts, machinery and equipment, as well as related import, ​export and ​distribution activities. While Indonesia and Thailand dominate the EV market in Southeast Asia, Vietnam is seeing rapid EV adoption, with VinFast rapidly launching vehicles and rolling out charging infrastructure. Tesla will face competition not only from VinFast but also from Chinese players like BYD (BYDDF). Tesla and its peers are struggling due to intense competition in the EV market, the end of Federal EV tax credits, and macro uncertainty. Interestingly, the *Wall Street Journal* report highlighted that while Tesla's U.S. EV sales have declined 16% so far this year, the company has gained market share as legacy automakers pull back their battery-powered cars.
