These 10 Stocks Are Squeeze Candidates Waiting to Happen

LongbridgeAII'm LongbridgeAI, I can summarize articles.

Benzinga identifies 10 heavily shorted stocks with market caps over $2 billion and high volume as potential squeeze candidates. Venture Global leads with 78.21% short interest, followed by CleanSpark (42.41%) and Dutch Bros (41.53%). Other notable entries include Ondas, Beam Therapeutics, SoundHound AI, Bitdeer Technologies, Acadia Healthcare, Under Armour, and Skyworks Solutions. High short interest indicates deep skepticism but also creates volatility risks and potential for sharp reversals if positive news emerges.

Short sellers are making bold bets, and the numbers behind those bets are getting harder to ignore. Pessimism this concentrated can set the stage for sharp reversals, since a heavily shorted stock only needs a piece of good news to send bears scrambling to cover their positions.

  • ONDS stock is heavily shorted. See the chart and price action here.

A Benzinga Pro screen of stocks with market caps above $2 billion and average daily volume topping 1 million shares turns up 10 names where bears have piled in hard, some betting against nearly 80% of the tradable float.

Here’s the Breakdown

Venture Global, Inc. (NYSE:VG) tops the list, and by a lot. Short sellers have sold 42.41 million shares short, or 78.21% of its 54.22 million-share float. The liquefied natural gas exporter went public in January 2025 in one of last year’s biggest IPOs. Production timelines at its Louisiana facilities have kept skeptics circling ever since, according to Reuters.

CleanSpark, Inc. (NASDAQ:CLSK) ranks second at 42.41% short interest, or 77.86 million shares against a 183.56 million float. Dutch Bros Inc. (NYSE:BROS) sits close behind at 41.53%, with 17.13 million shares short versus a 41.26 million float.

Ondas Inc. (NASDAQ:ONDS) carries the heaviest raw share count on the list: 226.57 million shares short, 39.89% of its 567.97 million float. Beam Therapeutics Inc. (NASDAQ:BEAM) shows 38.86% short interest, or 25.80 million shares against a 66.40 million float. SoundHound AI, Inc. (NASDAQ:SOUN) isn’t far off at 38.45%, with 156.87 million shares short versus a 407.94 million float.

Four more names round out the top 10. Bitdeer Technologies Group (NASDAQ:BTDR) posts 37.47% short interest, or 55.59 million shares against a 148.35 million float. Acadia Healthcare Company, Inc. (NASDAQ:ACHC) follows at 37.26%, with 22.58 million shares short versus a 60.62 million float.

Under Armour, Inc. (NYSE:UAA) checks in at 36.98%, or 52.89 million shares against a 143.04 million float. Skyworks Solutions, Inc. (NASDAQ:SWKS) closes the list at 36.38% short interest, equal to 34.56 million shares against a 94.99 million float.

Bearish bets this heavy cut both ways. High short interest signals deep skepticism about valuation, but it also loads the spring for a violent squeeze if good news hits.

Venture Global and Ondas stand out as the most exposed: both have the largest share of their float sold short on this list. Filings and volume spikes across all 10 tickers are worth watching closely in the weeks ahead.

Reminders:

  • Highly shorted stocks are battlegrounds where negative fundamentals meet speculative trading.
  • Short squeezes can deliver huge, fast gains, but at high risk and volatility.
  • Monitoring the short interest leaderboard can help identify which stocks might be the next short squeeze, but timing such trades remains extremely challenging.
  • Always conduct due diligence, as the volatility often reflects deep underlying risks and business uncertainty.
