According to the Zhitong Finance APP, Morgan Stanley released a research report stating that, according to a weekend report by Caixin, FAW Group may acquire equity in GAC Group (02238) through asset allocation and other means, forming a joint venture relationship between the two companies. However, neither company has commented on this. The bank believes that if the restructuring is ultimately realized, it may accelerate industry consolidation against the backdrop of concerns about overcapacity. Morgan Stanley maintains an "Overweight" rating on GAC Group, with a target price of HKD 2.70, representing a 26% upside from the closing price of HKD 2.14 on September 11.

GAC Group's H shares were suspended from trading on September 14 due to undisclosed significant matters, and trading of its A shares has also been suspended. The bank also pointed out that the stock price of BAIC Motor (01958) rose on that day, which may also have been driven by the weekend's consolidation news
