# X Launches Cashtag Trading In The US With Coinbase, Kraken, Gemini And Major Brokerages

X is bringing trading closer to the conversations that drive financial interest on its platform, allowing US users to move from a Cashtag to participating brokerages without first searching for a separate trading service.

## X Connects Cashtags With Trading Platforms

X has launched its Cashtag Partner Program in the US, adding a “Trade” option to supported Cashtags covering stocks, ETFs and cryptocurrencies.

The feature builds on X’s existing Cashtag system, where users can tap a ticker such as $BTC to see live price information and posts discussing the asset.

Rather than executing trades itself, X sends users to a participating financial platform where they can log in or create an account and complete the transaction.

The initial partners are Coinbase, Gemini, Kraken, Interactive Brokers and Moomoo, giving users access to both crypto-focused exchanges and traditional investment platforms.

The arrangement makes X a link between financial discussions and trading services, while the partner platforms remain responsible for order execution, custody, account checks and other requirements.

## How Does X’s New Trade Button Work?

The process starts with a supported Cashtag appearing in a post or being searched on X.

Users can open the asset page, review its price chart and related posts, then select the new “Trade” option and choose one of the available partners.

The actual purchase or sale takes place on the selected brokerage rather than inside X.

This means users still need an eligible account and must meet the individual provider’s requirements before they can trade an asset.

Availability can also differ between platforms because each partner has its own list of supported products, customer eligibility rules and regulatory restrictions.

For crypto users, the addition of Coinbase, Gemini and Kraken creates a more direct route from conversations about digital assets to established trading platforms.

## X Had Already Built The Cashtag Trading Route

The latest rollout follows several upgrades to X’s Cashtag system.

The platform introduced smart Cashtags for iPhone users in the US and Canada in April, adding live charts, asset-related posts and support for cryptocurrency contract addresses.

The feature was designed to help users identify the correct asset when different tokens use similar names or ticker symbols.

Canadian users were also given a trading link through Wealthsimple, while the new US programme expands the model to five participating financial companies.

X later added real-time stock charts, further expanding Cashtags beyond cryptocurrency.

Former X product chief Nikita Bier had previously said the company was working towards a trading button after introducing these features.

Responding to a user who criticised the platform's treatment of Crypto Twitter, Bier said,

> “Before I joined, X had zero features for crypto traders.”

He added that he had created Cashtags and that a trading button would soon be added.

Bier also said X can provide relevant information when users paste a newly issued token's contract address into a post.

That function is particularly relevant to crypto markets, where fraudulent tokens can copy the names and symbols of legitimate projects.

Checking the contract address can help users distinguish the intended token before sending funds or interacting with a trading platform.

## Could X Turn Financial Conversations Into Trading Activity?

The new feature reduces the number of steps between discovering an asset and accessing a market.

A user who sees a discussion about Bitcoin, a stock or another supported asset no longer needs to leave X, search for a brokerage and then find the same ticker again.

For participating platforms, the programme provides a direct route to users already showing interest in a particular asset.

However, there is still limited information about how much trading activity the new feature is generating.

Coinbase has not disclosed trading volume specifically linked to the Cashtag integration, leaving its effect on actual transactions unclear.

The programme could also bring less experienced traders closer to markets, particularly when financial discussions spread rapidly on social media.

X has not presented Cashtags, price charts or posts as investment advice or recommendations to trade.

## X’s Trading Plans Extend Beyond Crypto

The Cashtag programme forms part of X’s broader effort to add financial services to the platform.

Its focus is not limited to digital assets, with Cashtags covering stocks and ETFs alongside cryptocurrencies.

Interactive Brokers and Moomoo also give the programme access to traditional financial markets, while Coinbase, Gemini and Kraken provide crypto trading routes.

> Hi there! Yes, It’s legit. A Cashtag is a ticker with a $ in front, like $AAPL or $NVDA. Tap it on X to see market info, then “Trade with” to continue with a partner like Moomoo.

These developments give X more financial services to connect with, although users continue to interact with the individual providers rather than an X-operated exchange.

X has also been developing X Money, a separate financial service designed around functions including peer-to-peer transfers and payments.

The company has secured money-transmitter licences in more than 40 US states and Washington, D.C., and partnered with Visa for transfers between bank accounts and X Money wallets.

## Bier’s Departure Leaves The Launch Timeline Open

Bier stepped down as X’s product chief this month and remains with the company as an advisor.

His departure means the trading button's further development will now be handled under his successor.

Neither Bier nor X has provided a specific date for when additional Cashtag trading capabilities will arrive.

The existing US partner programme is already live, but coverage depends on supported Cashtags and the products offered by each brokerage.

X has therefore taken the Cashtag system from displaying market information towards providing a direct route to financial platforms, while leaving the actual trade and associated requirements outside the social network.
