# GE Aerospace Delivers Crucial News for Boeing 777X Investors

GE Aerospace (GE) said a durability issue identified in the GE9X engine is not expected to affect the planned entry into service of Boeing's (BA) 777X aircraft next year, according to comments made Thursday at a Morgan Stanley conference. The company has already incorporated a redesigned component into current engine production and remains confident in the program schedule.

The issue involves the engine's mid-seal, a component that links the front and rear sections of the GE9X. GE Aerospace said testing showed the original design did not meet durability expectations, prompting the company to develop an updated version. Engines equipped with the revised seal began shipping to Boeing during the third quarter, while certification from the Federal Aviation Administration is anticipated within the next few months.

GE Aerospace first disclosed the potential problem in February and later said it had identified the root cause and completed a corrective design without changing the overall timeline for the GE9X program. The company said internal testing has supported confidence in the redesigned part.

Separately, GE Aerospace said its recently agreed $11.75 billion acquisition of Consolidated Precision Products is intended to strengthen supplies of precision-cast engine components and should not be viewed as a broader shift toward vertical integration across its aerospace operations.
