# Unity Software (U) Stock Gains as Meta Bets Bigger on VR and AI Hardware

Unity Software (U) stock gained more than 5% in after-hours trading Wednesday after Meta Platforms (META) unveiled new VR, AI, and wearable products at its Meta Connect 2026 event. The announcements could provide a potential read-through for Unity, which has a long-standing relationship with Meta in virtual reality development.

For context, Unity Software develops tools that help creators build, deploy, and grow games and interactive experiences across mobile, PC, console, and extended reality (XR) platforms.

## **Meta's Bigger VR Push Could Benefit Unity**

Unity has a long-standing partnership with Meta focused on VR development. Developers use Unity's tools alongside Meta's XR software to build and deploy immersive experiences across Meta's devices.

In April 2026, the companies extended their multi-year platform support and enterprise agreement. Unity says more than 70% of the top-selling VR games on the Meta Store are made with Unity. More Meta devices could expand the pool of developers creating VR content. This could potentially increase demand for development tools such as Unity's platform.

Meta has also expanded the technical integration between the two platforms. Its Meta XR Unity MCP Extension allows developers to use AI agents to create and modify Meta VR scenes directly within Unity, adding another layer to the companies' software relationship.
