Tesla stock fell 1.42% despite teasing the next-gen Roadster, with a full reveal scheduled for October 2026 and orders reopened requiring a $50,000 deposit. A new patent suggests an adaptive rear wing linked to driver-assist software. CEO Elon Musk noted the Roadster won't significantly boost revenue, highlighting Optimus robot development instead. Wall Street analysts rate TSLA a 'Moderate Buy' with an average price target of $388.85.

Tesla (TSLA) stock was down 1.42% on Friday, even after the electric vehicle (EV) maker teased details about the upcoming next-generation Roadster. A new image reveals little of the car, showing only a full-width LED light bar across the front. Instead, the rest of the car sits in the dark.

Investors will note that Tesla plans to reveal the new Roadster on October 1, 2026, in Waco, Texas. The event should give shareholders a much better look at the car. Tesla is also set to share more on its specs and cabin during that event. The company has also reopened Roadster orders. Buyers must put down $50,000 to get a place in line. That starts with a $5,000 card payment. The other $45,000 must then be sent by wire transfer.

A new patent may have also given TSLA investors a clue about the car. The filing shows an active rear wing that can change its shape as the car moves. It can rise for more downforce or shift to cut drag when needed. The wing may have one more key role. Tesla says the system can link to its driver-assist software. If a crash is set to occur, the wing can pull back. The goal would be to avoid more harm in a crash. The patent details do not prove that the wing will be on the Roadster.

Don't Expect a Roadster Revenue Boost for Tesla

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has called the Roadster reveal one of the most exciting product events ever. Even so, he has also said the car is not likely to have a big impact on revenue. Instead, Musk has argued that the real driver for Tesla is Optimus, the company's AI-powered robot.

Unfortunately, Optimus may have some issues with development. There have reportedly been problems with making the robot right, which could limit production speed. Despite that, production of the humanoid robot has ramped up ahead of its planned release in the second half of 2027.

Is Tesla Stock a Buy, Sell, or Hold?

Turning to Wall Street, the analysts' consensus rating for Tesla is Moderate Buy, based on 11 Buy, 12 Hold, and two Sell ratings over the past three months. With that comes an average TSLA stock price target of $388.85, representing a potential 4.87% upside for the shares. (See TSLA Stock Forecast)
